February 8, 2008 Jim will anchor a panel discussing “Smart Growth Through Urban Forestry,” at the New Partners for Smart Growth Conference at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel in Washington, D.C.

March 16-April 1, 2008 Jim will be in New Zealand on a two-week fellowship with the Center for Advanced Engineering in New Zealand. While there, he will be speaking to universities and some city councils about both hazard mitigation planning and planning for post-disaster recovery. A key issue of concern in New Zealand, due to the terrain, is landslides. Watch here for details of specific engagements.

April 29, 2008 Jim will participate in a panel discussion of “Urban and Community Forestry,” at the American Planning Association annual conference at the Paris and Bally’s Las Vegas at 9:30-10:45 a.m. Jim will also participate in a discussion of “Hazard Mitigation in Comprehensive Plans” from 3:00-4:15 p.m.

November 12, 2007 Jim spoke on “Planning for Green Infrastructure” at the annual conference of the Missouri Chapter of the American Planning Association. The workshop took place at the Roberts Mayfair Hotel, 806 St. Charles St., in St. Louis.

Jim Schwab speaks on a variety of topics, but his availability depends on the location and timing of the invitation, among other factors, including negotiating a reasonable fee. In a limited number of selected instances involving nonprofits and topics particularly close to his heart, Jim will waive the fee, but travel costs will always be required for any appearance outside the Chicago area.
